A Unique Temporary Park Takeover Outside the BC Land Summit
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the BCLSA as a professional body. As part of their celebrations they are involved in the BC Land Summit a gathering that takes place every 5 years. This year's theme is “Collaborations and Connections” and that could not be more appropriate right now where we all have to work together to get these incredible projects funded and to bring these issues front of mind. The conference will focus its attention on the following discussion opportunities:-
- Food and Agriculture
- Law and the Land
- The Natural and Built Environment
- Water and the Land
As part of this project the host venue the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel on Burrard Street has agreed to a temporary park in front of the venue to welcome the 1200 delegates expected before they enter the building.
The concept is to highlight component layers of the space that ‘are’ landscape architecture. This temporary park will be accessible to the public, to walk around it and enjoy the space once in the park the visitor will be able to engage with a series of celebratory spaces that will transform and change over the course of the summit. In addition there will be daily events to captivate the public and media alike.
We are looking forward to seeing what the space is going to look like and how the BCSLA and all of the dedicated volunteers working on this project are going to bring the concept of Landscape Architecture to the public consciousness. This is an exceptional example of collaboration and a great start to the summit.
In order to off-set some of the cost of delivering the temporary park, the BCSLA are looking to engage with sponsors to cover the cost of materials, insurance and programming. The BCSLA are keen to engage anyone who wants to contribute offering sponsorship opportunities from $100 so no one is excluded from participating creating an opportunity to “Collaborate and Connect”. For more information on the sponsorship opportunity please visit Sponsorship Opportunities online.
The BC Land Summit takes place from May 9th – May 17th 2014 you can register your attendance on the BC Land Summit website here.
Green Tip of the EARTH DAY: Tuesday April 22nd was EARTH DAY! As such we want to celebrate by bringing you two tips this week.
- Tip One: Have you heard of Cowpowerbc.com? Cowpowerbc.com is a local non-profit green electricity supplier that provides electricity to BC businesses, homes and events. Cowpower is energy that is supplied from local farms through a process called Anaerobic Digestion. Check it out at www.cowpowerbc.com and switch today.
- Tip Two: Make it a full load! The average washing machine uses 40.9 gallons of water per load. If you buy a new washer, shop for a high-efficiency washer that needs less than 28 gallons of water per load. To achieve even greater savings, wash only full loads of laundry or be sure to choose the appropriate load size on the washing machine.
Happy Earth day to you all
We can all do more to recycle, reuse, conserve and protect.
Weekly Update: Do you have your tickets for the BCSLA Green Tie Gala Dinner it happens this Friday we look forward to seeing you there!
